The head of Airbus does not rule out that he will gain control of two factories in the US and UK, operated by Spirit Aerosystems (SPR), if Boeing (BA) buys one of the key suppliers of the industry.
The fate of factories and 4,000 workers in Kinston, North Carolina, and Belfast, Northern Ireland, depends on decisions by the industry’s biggest players.
Airbus believes that it can legitimately lay claim to the two factories, since it manufactures wings and sections for its aircraft there.
Recall that last week Boeing said it was working on a potential deal for Spirit. It also became known that the breakup of Spirit and the departure of part of the company to Airbus cannot be ruled out.
“This news may lead to an increase in the value of Airbus and Spirit Aero shares, as the latter is experiencing difficulties due to restrictions on orders from Boeing, which amounted to about 75% of the total production, which could subsequently affect deliveries to Airbus. However, Airbus has not yet ruled out the possibility of buying two factories in the US and UK and is monitoring the situation, so the growth in the value of these companies’ shares against the backdrop of this news will be limited,” says Freedom Finance Global analyst Vladimir Chernov.
