Semiconductor technology company Aehr Test Systems (NASDAQ: AEHR) today announced the first shipment of its major new product. The first major customer received the new FOX-XP system for next-generation photonics manufacturing.
Aehr Test Systems said it has shipped the first FOX-XP system to a major manufacturer of next-generation silicon photonic integrated circuits.
The FOX family of systems is designed to process multiple semiconductor wafers simultaneously, reducing energy consumption, which is two to four times higher for silicon photonic chips than for conventional electronic components.
As noted earlier, Aehr Test Systems has high hopes for sales of the FOX-XP. The FOX family of systems has really attracted attention because it is suitable for handling wafers for chips of various applications, such as power electronics based on silicon carbide.
Aehr Test Systems also offers WaferPak contactors, which are designed to move wafers between production equipment. This is also an important part of the semiconductor manufacturing processes. Thus, Aehr Test Systems has a complete solution.
The first major customer ordered the FOX-XP system and WaferPak kit. The system allows testing of nine wafers at once, with more than 8,000 optical modules on each.
If successful, Aehr Test Systems will almost certainly receive new large orders, including from giant leaders such as AMD, Nvidia, Intel and TSMC. Many companies are currently counting on the launch of new photonic chips that use photons rather than electrons to transmit signals. Photonics has many advantages, including lower power consumption, high frequency, and immunity to electromagnetic interference and radiation.
At mid-trading on March 1, AEHR shares were trading at $18.15, giving them a market cap of $523.63 million.
